Dog licking paws could be a sign or symptoms of the presence of an unwanted element in the body of the dog that is making him uncomfortable that needs to be cleared out,

Reasons or causes of dog licking paws
If your dog is the type that plays outside, he can get in contact with grasses with may be allergic to his skin thus he then decides to lick off the irritation hence grasses is one of the main cause why dog licking is frequent among the pets.

 Arthritis is another main reason for this behaviour, this is common with older dogs thus as a result of arthritis they tend to lick their paws always.

Food Allergy can as well be a source of the sudden change in the behavioural pattern the dog exhibit thus they may be reacting to a change of food, hence to curb this situation it is important to reverse back to the normal dieting pattern to stop the licking,

Skin allergies are also why lots of dogs are involved in all forms of paws due to the allergy which will be irritating to the pet to ease of the effect he results to licking, the bad weather condition can also result in this situation, too much of cold or hot weather can result to dog licking paws.

Also if the nail in your dog's legs is too long this will result in the dog licking paws thus it is necessary for constant paws on the dog’s nails and if an unwanted object is on the toe of the pet that is making him feel uncomfortable he tends to paw it to get rid of the object.

Such condition or habit must be stopped as soon as possible because constant licking of a particular spot can lead to granuloma which is a skin disease that is very itchy thus making the dog very uncomfortable.

There are lots of medications and drugs which can help correct this behaviour some are tranquillizers, endorphin blockers, corticosteroids

Also, more often than not dogs licking paws occurs mostly when such pets have injuries and untreated wounds, thus are necessary to take proper care of any wound thus using a bandage on the affected part is a good option

In case of granuloma infection,, the use of dog creams and spray will help prevent the dog from continuous licking also rubbing bitter taste substance on the affected part is another way of discouraging the dog from constant licking.
